Calling All K-Pop Cover Dancers in South Africa!

Get ready to dance your way into the spotlight! The KCCSA is thrilled to announce the 1st K-Pop Dance Competition of the year, open to individuals and groups from all nationalities residing in South Africa. This competition invites K-Pop enthusiasts from every corner of South Africa to participate.

After a fierce battle of skills and creativity in the preliminary round online, the top individuals and groups will earn an invitation to compete live in Pretoria for the finals.

Show off your dance moves and express your love for K-Pop in the most exciting competition of the year! Whether you’re a solo performer or part of a dynamic group, this is your chance to shine and wow the audience with your creativity and passion.

DATES

  • Submission Deadline: Friday, 4 October 2024, 4PM

  • Preliminary Round Winner Announcement: Wednesday, 16 October 2024

  • Final Round & KCC K-Pop Festival: Saturday, 9 November 2024

*Finalists and winners will perform at the KCC K-Pop Festival.

CATEGORIES

  • K-pop Dance Group: Cover Dance or/and own Choreography

  • K-pop Dance Solo: Cover Dance or/and own Choreography

AWARDS

  • K-Pop Dance Group: 1st Prize R15,000 | 2nd Prize R12,000 | 3rd Prize R10,000

  • K-Pop Dance Solo: 1st Prize R10,000 | 2nd Prize R7,000 | 3rd Prize R5,000

  • Special Award: R5,000

ELIGIBILITY

  • Persons who reside legally in the Republic of South Africa (RSA)

  • Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) years must submit a parental/guardian consent form.

  • Only join the competition if you or your team can attend the Final Round and K-Pop Festival on Saturday, 9 November 2024 in Pretoria, if shortlisted.

*Participants can enter both for K-pop dance solo and K-pop dance group, but cannot enter twice in the same category (i.e. entering more than once in the K-pop dance solo category or be part of more than one group).

ONLINE SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1. Completed Online Application Form

2. K-pop Dance Video:

  • Selected songs must be K-pop.

  • A remix of K-pop songs can be submitted.

  • Submitted video should be in full view of the dancer/s, uncut, unedited, and recorded with a fixed camera.

  • Video should be no less than 3 minutes and no longer than 6 minutes. (File type: MP4, Max 1G)

3. Introduction Video:

  • Introduction video should be no more than 2 minutes. (File type: MP4, Max 100MB)

  • Introduce yourself (for groups, each member should introduce themselves): Name, nationality, occupation, and other self-promotion.

  • Explain your motivation for joining the competition.

  • Share why you chose the song you performed for the competition.

  • Tell us your favourite K-Pop group and why.

  • What do you want to say to the judges?

*Submission video/s must be uploaded on Google Drive and the link must be provided to online application form. Ensure the Google Drive link to your video is open for public viewing.

NOTE: Any application that does not follow the eligibility and online submission requirements mentioned above will be disqualified.

JUDGING CRITERIA

1. Technique, staging and performance

2. Expressiveness, stage presence, and dominance

3. Choreography, musicality, difficulty, and synchronization (for groups)

*In the event of a tie, the candidates will be given an opportunity to perform their second song. The judges will then decide the winner.

PARTIAL SUPPORT FOR TRAVEL

The KCCSA will provide partial amount for transport allowance for shortlisted finalists travelling from outside Pretoria. (T&C apply)
