  1.  K-pop Dance Academy workshop with choreographer Jay Kim
    The Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa had the privilege of inviting renowned choreographer Jay Kim, representing Korea, to conduct a K-pop Academy workshop from Monday,8 May to Friday, 19 May. This workshop aimed to elevate the standards of local K-pop dance by bringing in Korean experts and to contribute to the growth and popularity of K-pop within the host country. Jay Kim, a talented dancer, and choreographer, served as the choreography director for the workshop. The workshop was divided into two sessions: a morning beginner class consisting of 10 participants and an afternoon advanced class with 17 participants. The focus of the workshop was to prepare the participants for the K-pop dance performances at the K-Lifestyle in Africa event. ▲ Participants conducting a workshop with choreographer Jay Kim   During the K-Lifestyle in Africa event held on Friday, 19 May and Saturday, 20 May, the advanced class, which included the winner of the K-pop Quiz Contest at the Cultural Centre and an instructor from the Cultural Centre's K-pop Academy, showcased their skills by performing to six songs. The highlight of the event was the collaboration stage featuring choreographer Jay Kim and the advanced class performing NCT's "Candy," which received an enthusiastic response from the audience regardless of age or gender.   ▲ Participants in the advanced class of the K-pop dance workshop performing together with Jay Kim   The Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa anticipates that this K-pop dance workshop will not only enhance the quality of the K-pop Academy at the Centre but also contribute to the wider distribution and popularity of K-pop in South Africa. We hope that this workshop will be a catalyst for further growth and appreciation of K-pop within the local community.

  3.  2023 K-pop Academy Orientation
    The Korean Cultural Center in South Africa held the second orientation of the 2023 K-pop Academy on Friday, March 31, 2023. This year's K-pop Academy consists of a total of three semesters and will run in three classes every semester. K-pop Academy students range from early teens to 40s, making it a popular course for local fans in South Africa as a cultural center program that anyone who likes K-pop can enjoy.   ▲Cultural center staff explaining K-pop Academy's programs   Students gathered in the auditorium to have an orientation at the K-pop Academy and freely discussed such as "choreography" and "flexibility." Lindsey Setlema, a boy group instructor, said at the orientation, "We will try to take the K-pop dance level of the students to the next level."   ▲K-pop Academy instructors who show off their dancing skills in front of students   In the orientation, the students performed a random dance play to the random K-pop music.   ▲Students who enjoy K-pop random dance play   The Korean Cultural Center in South Africa is attracting attention as a base for the spread of the Korean Wave in South Africa as well as South Africa, and plans to spread Korean culture through various regular courses such as Sejong Institute and Taekwondo classes.
