Korean Ramyeon Meets SA Flavours in K-Noodle Cooking Challenge

  • Post Date01.04.2026

From 23 to 26 March, the Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa (KCCSA) hosted the “Fire on K-Noodle” Korean Ramyeon Cooking Competition, bringing together students from the King Sejong Institute for a lively and creative culinary challenge.

Over the course of three sessions, participants reimagined ramyeon (Korean instant noodles) by incorporating flavours, ingredients, and inspirations drawn from South Africa. Each dish reflected a unique interpretation, combining familiar elements of Korean cuisine with local influences to create something both personal and inventive.

The competition highlighted not only the versatility of ramyeon but also the participants’ creativity and understanding of cultural fusion. From bold flavour combinations to thoughtful presentation, the dishes demonstrated how a simple meal can become a canvas for storytelling and exchange.

Through this programme, students engaged with Korean food culture in a hands-on and imaginative way, exploring how culinary traditions can evolve and connect across different contexts.
