On Monday, 8 September, the Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa (KCCSA) hosted a full-day programme dedicated to exploring Korea’s timeless traditions through fashion and craft.

The morning session opened with a lecture on the history and symbolism of hanbok, Korea’s traditional attire. Participants learned how this iconic garment has evolved over time while continuing to shine in modern contexts—from daily life to the big screen.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted from theory to practice. Under expert guidance, participants crafted their own gwi-jumeoni (traditional pouches decorated with maedeup knots) and explored minhwa (Korean folk painting), gaining a hands-on connection to artistic traditions that have been cherished for generations.

The event highlighted how Korean cultural heritage continues to resonate with audiences in South Africa, sparking both creative expression and deeper appreciation for its enduring beauty.
