This year, we mark the 80th anniversary of Gwangbokjeol (광복절), National Liberation Day — a day that celebrates Korea’s hard-won freedom from 35 years of Japanese colonial rule on August 15, 1945.

Gwangbokjeol is more than just a historical commemoration. It is a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice of countless independence fighters who dedicated their lives to reclaim Korea’s sovereignty. Since its official designation as a national holiday in 1949, this day has united Koreans around the world in honoring their heritage and reflecting on the nation’s journey toward peace and unity.

The Korean Cultural Centre SA will be closed on Friday, 15 August 2025 in observance of the National Liberation Day of Korea.
