Step into the world of Korean tradition through fashion and art!
Join us at the Korean Cultural Centre for a special day exploring the beauty of Hanbok, Korea’s traditional clothing, and experiencing hands-on craft workshops.
Begin with an engaging lecture tracing Hanbok’s history, symbolism, and its on-screen life in Korean dramas and media. In the afternoon, shift from insight to practice: craft a Gwi-Jumeoni finished with Maedeup knots and explore Minhwa, Korea’s folk-art tradition of auspicious motifs. A compact, hands-on day that ties fashion, craft, and story together.
Don’t miss the chance to explore Korea’s artistry, from timeless fashion to meaningful crafts.
Gwi-Jumeoni with Maedeup (Traditional Korean pouch with knots)
Gwi-Jumeoni is a traditional Korean pouch, often carried with Hanbok. Made from colourful fabric and tied with a drawstring, it once held small items or charms. Its drawstring is often finished with Maedeup, the Korean knots known for its clean, balanced form. Today, it symbolizes good fortune and beauty, adding elegance to traditional attire.
Minhwa painting (Korean folk art)
Minhwa are Korean folk paintings created by everyday people. They often show symbols of good fortune, happiness, and protection. These artworks were used to decorate homes and express people’s hopes and beliefs.
