광복 80주년 기념 한국인 근현대 생활사 사진전: 한국인의 삶의 변화 100년 행사 기간 2025.08.16. ~ 2025.09.12.
16 August-12 September 2025 9AM-4PM Korean Cultural Centre SA 267 Waterkloof Road, Brooklyn, Pretoria A photographic journey through memory, emotion, and transformation Witness a century of Korea’s turbulent history through powerful moments captured on film. To mark the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation, the Korean Cultural Centre SA presents a special exhibition that traces 100 years of Korean lives and the profound changes that shaped them. From the quiet dignity of agrarian life in the early 1900s to the dynamic global presence of Korea today, this exhibition offers a sweeping visual narrative of a people who endured colonization, fought for independence, and rebuilt their nation through war, industrialization, democratization, and innovation. Featuring colour-restored archival photographs, the exhibition captures the everyday moments of ordinary individuals—at work, at home, and in protest—each frame a testimony to Korea’s living history. Through eight distinct chapters, visitors will walk through a century of change: from the communal traditions of Joseon and the struggles under Japanese rule, to the Korean War, rapid urbanization, and the vibrant cultural wave that now reaches across continents. These once black-and-white images—now carefully brought to life in colour—invite us to rediscover forgotten faces and reawaken shared memories. The lives, tears, hopes, and dreams captured here are not just remnants of the past, but the very foundation of Korea’s present. Join us in commemorating 80 years of freedom and reflecting on the lives, hopes, and stories that built today’s Korea. DATES 16 August - 12 September 2025 *The exhibition is closed on weekends and public holidays.
